Bayview
Weldrick Town home Application extremely controversial
In
the fall of 2006, I held an open house with an applicant who
wishes to change the Institutional zoning and school site at
Bayview and Weldrick to a residential use of Town homes. We
had 200 residents come out to see the developer show an
application that according to most residents in attendance,
reflected a downgrade in the housing values of the Bayview
Hill Area and removed most badly needed institutionally zoned
land from the community.
The
Town home application of 70 units, far exceeded densities in
area’s both in Bayview Hill and without. Materials and
design of the units appeared to be of low grade, especially
compared to the homes on Hillsborough and Weldrick Road to the east.
The application would present the first Townhouses or
multiple family use in the Bayview Hill Community.
I
have received numerous concerns from residents. The
presentation did not make anyone comfortable. The residents
formed a group to fight the application.
I am opposed to the application.
I do not know at writing when public hearings will be
held. I am
helping residents organize and meet with Town Officials to
discuss the matter. Residents
who wish to be notified of meetings may contact me and I will
make sure you are notified.
Those interested in working with residents may contact
Walter Wong at bayviewhill@hotmail.com.
Further details of the application can be obtained
through the Town of Richmond Hill Planning Department.

Highway 404-7 trying to make a difference to our
environment. Promoting business and workers to be sustainable.
I am a
founding member of Smart Commute and the Richmond Hill Council
representative. Smart Commute is becoming one of the most
successful Transportation Management organization’s in
Canada. The organization is set up to promote alternative
transportation to reduce gridlock, primarily in the Highway
404 – 7 area. It is a partnership of Richmond Hill and
Markham and York Region financially and is operated by the
Richmond Hill Chamber of Commerce and the Markham Board of
Trade. We have several people from the private sector
involved. Over 50,000 workers come and go from this area every
day. Our most
recent project is providing buses that take workers from our
business in the Business parks to our local restaurants for
lunch. The trial plan has been successful so far and we hope
to expand it in the not too distant future if the trial is
successful. We
keenly work on plans such as creating carpools, encouraging
business to travel at non key periods, use YRT and other
initiatives to be more sustainable. Information can be
obtained at http://www.smartcommute404-7.ca/

Buttonville
Airport and Town try to work out Noise problems
Airplanes safety is controlled by Transport
Canada, ( Federal Government) and implemented by NavCanada. (
non profit Crown Corporation ) The Buttonville Airport is a
privately owned and operated facility. It is one of the 10
busiest airports in Canada.
The Buttonville Airport Committee consists
of representatives of the Airport, various users of planes,
NavCanada, and Councillors and residents from Markham and
Richmond Hill. I am a Richmond Hill representative and have
been since the Committee was set up. There are several citizen
members. Markham also has Council and citizens on the
Committee.
Richmond Hill representatives work to try
and create harmony between the neighborhood and the Airport.
The Airport has been persuaded to attempt to make things more
comfortable for residents in the area. This year on holiday
weekends, the Flights School ceased operations at 4.00 PM so
that residents could sit outside in peace. We are hoping to
persuade them to expand this in the future. This is a major
accomplishment.
We have attempted for several years to get
the circuit routes changed which would reduce the noise over
our community. NavCanada
, the safety arm of Transport
Canada has refused to permit the changes, claiming safety
reasons.
The Committee reviews all noise complaints.
