Councillor David Cohen is a founding member of Smart Commute and is RIchmond Hill's
representative on this committee. A trial lunch bus service was initiated the end of November 2006 for
free rides for lunch for workers in the Highway 7 Beaver Creek and Commerce Valley area. At the Official

5 years. REENA provide programs and operate Group
Homes for those with developmental disabilities throughout
the GTA. REENA is building a Seniors Home in the
near future in Richmond Hill. The event on June 23,

On June 23, 2004, Councillor David
Cohen is seen at the Annual General Meeting of the
Richmond Hill Chamber of Commerce with local business
operator Hughes Felus. Councillor Cohen is the Council
liaison to the Chamber of Commerce. In the rear is
a presentation for Smart Commute Program. The Program
promotes alternative ways to get to work and reduce
Gridlock. Councillor Cohen is one of two Councillors
on the 404- 7 Smart Commute Committee.
Bayview Hill Elementary School Principal
Mr. Stone with me at the Grade Graduation on June
22,2004. The Bayview Hill Elementary School was rated
by the Province of Ontario to be one of the top Schools
in the Province this year through the hard work of
Mr Stone and his staff. I presented an award for
citizenship at the ceremony.

Mayor William F. Bell speaks to
walkers at the Hip Hip Hooray event on June 13 that
raised money for York Central and Markham Stouville
Hospitals. All the walkers had either a knee or a
hip replacement. The two fellows standing by me are
doctors from the two hospitals.

put on by Arts Richmond Hill. This years Chair was

volunteers put on a very successful bar b q on June
9,2004. I am pictured with some of the volunteers
on a very hot and steamy day, The weather man had
threatened rain, but it stayed away til after the
event which had an estimated turnout of 300 adults
and children. It is a pleasure working with this
fine group of parents on the School Council.

on Saturdays at Bayview High School. Here President

June 4 is the anniversary of the
Massacre at Tiananmen Square in Beijing, China. On
May 30, The Toronto Association for Democracy in
China held a rally and a Memorial Dinner to remember
the horrific event when thousands of students were
mass murdered while peacefully protesting. Those
in this picture were leaders of that student strike
who have exiled along with a labour leader from Hong
Kong and one of the organizers of the group and event
Dick Chan.
The Children Hold Memorial Candles
to remember and honour those who died in Peaceful
protest. The Toronto Association for Democracy in
China include many Toronto area residents who dream
of the day when they feel there will be freedom of
expression in China. The many stories told were touching
and the speakers sometimes cried in reliving the
horror of the 1989 Tiananmen Massacre.
I am seen at the May 30 Tiananmen Memorial event
with Dick Chan, an original organizer of the Toronto
Association for Democracy in China. I was honoured
to be one of only two local politicians ( Tony
Wong ) at this event. Although much of the talking
was in Chinese, through the interpretation of friends
and video's supplied, I felt a strong feeling from
the program.

The Town of Richmond Hill hosted
a networking event for the Richmond Hill Chamber
of Commerce on May 25,2004. I am the Town's liason
to the Chamber of Commerce. Here I am with Leslie
Walker, Director of the Chamber of Commerce and one
of the many members who came out to the successful
event.
Migun Health and Beauty Aids Officially
opening in May 2004. Principles Tommy S. Au-Yeung
and Dennis Yip welcomed me to the Official Ribbon
Cutting. The business is located at Bayview and Weldrick.
Among the items the business sells, are special healing
beds.
I am seen here on May 15,2004 with
two other members of the Roadwatch Committee at our
Public Works Department Open house. The Roadwatch
program asks residents to report speeding drivers
who are then contacted by the York Regional Police.
I sit on the Roadwatch Committee with several hardworking
volunteers. At this years Public Works Open House,
we sold over 500 composters, gave away compost as
well as hotdogs and hamburgers. This is the kickoff
for the National Public Works Week.
Juliana Chan was a Co Chair of the
Imperial Ball on May 9,2004. The Ball raised money
for an addition to the Chinese Cultural Centre. In
her speech, she talked about the need to keep her
culture alive. Juliana is very active in our community.
Among her activities includes being an organizing
member of the Elegant Lions Club and a Board Member
of the Richmond Hill Markham Chinese Business. Association
and many other activities.
The Imperial Ball on May 9,2004 raised money for a new phase of construction of the Chinese Cultural Centre. Dr. K.K. Leung, Senior Pastor at Richmond Hill Free Methodist Church on Hillsview joins me. Dr. Leung is an Honorary Advisor to the Board of Directors of the Chinese Cultural Centre. It is hoped that the ground breaking of the addition will be done by the end of 2004.
Councillor David Cohen with Kuan Nai-chung, music composer and Dr. Patrick C.P. Ho, Secretary of Home Affairs, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the North American Premier of the Ballet "Legend of the Great Archer" by the Hong Kong Kong Ballet. Mr. Nai-chung composed the music for the first Ballet ever made using a Chinese Musical Score. The event helped raise money for the New Chinese Renaissance Exhibit at the currently being reconstructed Royal Ontario Museum. The Hong Kong Administration made a large financial contribution to the ROM to help pay for the exhibit at this event.
The Learning Disabilities Association had a Vintages and Jazz event on May 2, 2004 at the Loyal True Blue and Orange Building on Yonge Street. Joining me in the picture are Lynn Ziraldo, Executive Director, Barb, President of the Learning Disabilities Association and Regional Councillor David Barrow.
The Richmond Hill Potters and Weavers use the Town owned Burr House on Carrville Road, east of Bayview to make their crafts, and periodically show and sell them. They operate a tea house on many afternoons as well. Twice a year, they move the work machines out and show off and sell their artistic gems. Here I am purchasing a beautiful bowl made by a local artist at the biannual sale in late April 2004.

Jack has considerable community involvement. Among his many achievements, he initiated an annual fundraising dinner for York Central Hospital, gave scholarships for teen leadership courses and was President of Beit Rayim Synagogue.

Bruce is our Chair of Fundraising and is also a prime figure in the York Region Habitat for Humanity project that builds homes for those who are in need. Bernie is the Treasurer of Hospice Richmond Hill. He donates alot of his free time to make things right for those who are terminally ill. I sit on the Board of Directors.

Hospice Richmond Hill has volunteers who visit people who have terminal or life threatening illness's and try and make their life better. I sit on their Board of Directors. The service group serves people who live in Richmond Hill.
Richmond Hill Deputy Mayor, Regional and Local Councillor and Chair of the York Region Police Services Board David Barrow, myself and York Region Police Chief Armand Labarge at the 12th Annual Police Appreciation Night in April 2004. The York Region Police Force have cleaned up by closing down over 100 illegal massage parlours in York Region in the past year, many in Richmond Hill and Ward 3. We owe a debt of gratitude for their hard efforts to make our neighbourhood safe.
Mayor William Bell has been on Town Council since 1980 when he was Ward 3 Councillor and I followed him as Ward 3 Councillor in 1988. This picture was taken at the Jenny Wong Graduation in January 2004.
Ward 3 resident Jenny Wong operates a large school that trains people to work in the beauty , hair and cosmetic service industry. Her students learn at a school in Markham but get their practical training at their outlet at Hwy 7 and Doncrest Road in Ward 3. They provide ongoing volunteer time to make Richmond Hill a better place to live. The Richmond Hill & Markham Chinese Business Association is very active in our community. The Associations promotes business by way of programs, involvement with business associations from other area's, trade conferences and promotion. In the last year, they made a large effort to help business get back on its feet after the SARS epidemic. The Association encourages interaction with the whole community and often holds joint functions with the Richmond Hill Chamber of Commerce. The 10th Anniversary Gala of the Richmond Hill & Markham Chinese Business Association was a tremendous success. Three business's received achievement awards. In this picture with me includes Markham Councillor Khalid Usman, RHMCBA Past President Kit Wong, RHMCBA Current President Daisy Wai, Markham MPP Tony Wong, Richmond Hill MPP Frank Klees, Richmond Hill Councillor Lynn Foster and Richmond Hill Mayor Bill Bell.
Parent Council's work hard to make things good at our Schools. I am lucky to be the Citizen member of the Christ the King Parent Council. This picture is most of the 2003 -2004 Council taken at our April 2004 meeting. The Council has raised money, brought in speakers, provided equipment, volunteer time and even lobbied The Town of Richmond Hill for a safer drop off zone at the neighbouring Ed Sackfield Arena. There are many in this picture, but sitting to my right is Ms V. Longo, Principal and Terry Simonak, our hardworking Chair.
I had the pleasure of attending the Academy of Sports and Fitness's competition in April 2004. Emily, Vanessa, and Alyssa were among the many competitors. This Ward 3 organization is renowned for the quality program and National representatives that have trained there. These children, like so many in our area, spend many hours every week, training in various activities.
Richmond Hill resident and friend Latif Fasil and Dr. Ken Ng, President of the Federation of Chinese Canadians Markham join with me at the annual Pakistan Day Celebration. It was a great event celebrating the Canadian Pakistan Community and harmony between peoples.

The rally was a huge response against anti semetic actions including damaging graves, synagogues and painting Nazi slogans on peoples homes. Hate does not belong in Canada was the clear message of the evening. Canada thrives on diversity!
