Councillor David Cohen's efforts in the traffic and transit area focused on encouraging the use of public transit and promoting safety on local streets. See below
|
- As Town of Richmond Hill's representative on Smart Commute 404/Highway 7, Councillor Cohen initiated funds for a trial run of bus pick-ups to and from area restaurants in the Beaver Creek area. This project won national award for transit innovation, with the route now covered by the York Region Transit (YRT).
- Most of the traffic congestion in Richmond Hill occurs on regional roads, which fall under the jurisdiction of York Region. David Cohen was Chair of the Town of Richmond Hill Gridlock Task Force from 2003 - 2008, with a mandate to liaise with the Region on traffic improvement on regional roads.
- To avoid local roads being used as alternatives for major thoroughfares, Councillor Cohen orchestrated the testing of a number of traffic and speed mitigation measures, especially along Spadina Road.
- Councillor Cohen was on a task force that designed the process for residents to request traffic calming measures.
- To promote awareness on traffic safety, Councillor Cohen regularly collaborates with York Regional Police on educational and enforcement exercises.
