Councillor David Cohen played a major role in promoting economic development in the Town of Richmond Hill in the last two decades.
He sees attracting businesses to set up shop in the region as conducive to job creation, tax revenue generation, and a vibrant community. See below

- Councillor Cohen was instrumental in facilitating much of the transformation of Richmond Hill from a rural community to an urban centre. He represented the Beaver Creek area from 1998 to 2006, actively supporting the business community during a period of rapid growth in the town. He was responsible for making possible much of the commercial development along Highway 7. To his credit, Councillor Cohen is sometimes referred to Long Timers on Hwy 7 as 'Father of Richmond Hill'.
- Councillor Cohen has represented and supported the business community on many matters before Council. To develop a good understanding of the business community's interests and concerns, David Cohen participates actively in business associations. He served as Council representative on the Richmond Hill Chamber of Commerce as well as the Richmond Hill Markham Chinese Business Association. He is currently a member of the Canada Pakistan Business Council, Indo Canada Chamber of Commerce, and Association of Chinese Canadian Entrepreneurs.
- Councillor Cohen seeks to attract foreign businesses to invest in Richmond Hill. He has taken part in three international trade missions, two to the People's Republic of China and one to Pakistan.
